Are you familiar with the term “redlining?” It refers to a practice of segregating housing districts by race, where certain races are only allowed to live in certain neighborhoods. VERY illegal today, but was all the rage during Jim Crow. Looking at maps of formerly redlined areas today is… interesting. I’ll give you one guess how that correlates to household income.
Yes, I know all about redlining. To go off what you said: “where certain races are only allowed to live in certain neighborhoods” that’s how every major city was structured when immigrants from all around the world came. The Chinese lived in an area with all the Chinese, Irish with the Irish, Indian with the Indian, Mexican with the Mexican etc. So how do they take care of their own neighborhoods? How do they uplift each other and try and build solid foundations for their own communities?
So, slavery -> redlining/jim crow -> CIA putting crack in the streets = why black people commit 62% of homicides? I’m not denying that things like Jim Crow weren’t real, my argument is that so many factors outside of that injustice were controllable, as in those residents have had their own free will on how to support/uplift their communities. However, none of those factors can justify murdering someone. That’s a pure personal decision at the end of the day. No one else pulls the trigger.
