Isn’t that to be expected though? Lots of people go to school in locations they feel they fit in. Leftist people, if given the option, head to deep blue cities. Why wouldn’t the same be true for the opposite end of the spectrum where instead of NY, CA, MA etc they head to the Deep South like MS, LA, Al etc

No. “Most people” go to state schools within their own states because it turns out that out-of-state tuition is ungodly expensive!
