It doesn’t really need to be studied, most of the difference is covid spending.

But nearly half of it was covid spending, which most presidents did not have to deal with. That must be an old graphic, Biden’s term added more to the debt than Trump’s first term.

This was in Sep 2024, but the methodology is different also. Instead of just looking at the change before and after (which would cause a future president to be blamed for impacts of the previous president’s budget in the first year), they looked at the cost of each action
