In an ideal world yes but this’ll never happen

Pandora’s box. If Nukes never existed; sure. But they do. It’s irresponsible to be underprepared with nuclear power at this point.

The only kind of nuclear we should have is nuclear fusion

And go back into having world wars? No thanks. I like the idea that if we fall into another one, we just get wiped out. We’d deserve it at that point.

in an ideal world, yes. but that cat is out of the bag, fear and MAD aren’t disappearing

If nukes didn’t exist, they’d demand scrapping the next most powerful things, like fuel-air thermobarics

So what are you saying? What’s the critical thought

The fact that the only reason America did not go to war with Russia in the 20th century directly is because they were both afraid of the others nuclear capability. Or in the modern day why China shows restraint when dealing with Taiwan because they ultimately don’t want a hot war directly with another nuclear power. Nuclear weapons aren’t great and cause mass devastation obviously but they have kept the major powers from fighting each other directly which would cause way more devastation.

But once any country releases a nuclear weapon now (post Hiroshima/nagasaki) it’ll be game over, especially considering the nukes we have now are 100x more powerful than those bombs.

The idea that they deter war is valid but it only takes one nation with a nuke to end it all

The fact they haven’t already should give you some assurance. Nuclear war benefits no one so the only way one country ever thinks of using one is if they are going to be completely defeated. Though this situation is very unlikely as nuclear powers don’t find themselves weak enough to be caught in that situation. This is why nukes shouldn’t be in every country, but why they should exist as a deterrent for wider conflict.

I guess I agree but the idea of Israel bombing Iran to slow their development of a nuke is so crazy. They should be able to have that power as assurance that Israel won’t bomb their country. But yeah you’re right

With two of the most powerful nuclear powers in the world being headed by Trump and Putin… both egotistical crybabies who can’t handle the smallest scent of possible defeat, yeah we’re fucked.
