I feel like it’s not unreasonable to want the votes of blue people in red states, and the votes of red people in blue states all to still count towards the final result of the election.

It isn’t. The problem is there’s generally more blue people than red, so red would never accept this seeing as all their victories in this century except for one were without the majority of the popular vote.
