Wouldn’t you just avoid meat with ethical issues then? Not every animal product is unethical

just go to your local meat market. hell, i work in a huge grocery store chain’s meat market and we have cuts and options that are from more ethical sources lol.

ya that’s what i’m saying. eating meat isn’t unethical, but how the industry itself makes meat products is unethical. there definitely are ethical ways to eat meat, that’s kinda the point of the post

i have a problem w the vegans that act like you can’t eat any meat bc killing any living creature is wrong. meanwhile so many other animals around the world need to eat other animals in order to survive, and they’re not getting a morality test for it. the mainstream meat industry does torture animals more than needed and corporations are invested in that bc it makes them more money. but that’s what should be concerning, not that we’re eating meat in general.

Completely with you on this one OP. I don’t think it should be seen as overly libtard coded to say that we shouldn’t continue to torture intelligent animals en masse just so that we can put meat into every single thing we consume as cheaply as possible. We can take pride in eating a bit less meat and treating the animals with compassion

Okay but if there are ethical ways to eat meat, why go full vegan?

i mean i agree but vegans just don’t eat it regardless, right? like i try to eat the ethically sourced stuff if i can afford it, i like frying up a catfish i caught myself more than anything in this world, but i wouldn’t call myself a vegan for that lol.

for a multitude of reasons. one could be that if there’s less demand for meat then in theory it should reduce production and therefore unethical practice, basically a boycott of sorts. secondly, most vegans, if not all, believe animals deserve the same dignity and respect as we provide for humans, not just in terms of food consumption but how we affect their habitats. that dignity and respect can be shown through eating less meat or none at all.

Thats where we differ. I believe humans deserve more respect than animals. I don’t think it makes sense to equate an oyster and a human being.

and that’s your opinion. if you believe you are superior to all other animals, then you might hold a bias for what you determine to be mistreatment towards them. how we would treat cows, chickens, pigs, by force feeding them, mutilating them, and poor living conditions, for example, would be completely unacceptable to happen to humans. vegans and those who sympathize with animals think that’s unethical.

not to mention, how unhealthily they treat the meat you consume can affect your own health as well. all of this to say, i’m not saying you can’t eat meat. humans are omnivores for a reason and oftentimes vegans need a lot of additional supplementation to maintain a healthy lifestyle. at the same time we should be more mindful that we’re not the only living creatures and we depend on the health and safety of the animals around us to survive as well, for more than just a meal.
