The speed limits haven’t changed in a very long time. I think with modern cars, we could comfortably drive 100 mph especially places like the mid west.

In my area there’s a ~45 mile corridor where the limit goes from 65 to 55, and they just added another 10 miles onto both ends where the speed limit drops. Accidents are rare on this stretch so it’s obvious that they aren’t doing this for safety.
