I don’t believe there is compromise in certain beliefs. If one group is calling for equal rights and the other is calling for certain people to be killed I am absolutely going to the exact opposite of the ones saying people should die

That’s a centrist position that could easily be held by those on the center left and center right. You can be a centrist on operational (economic, budget, services) policy and still recognize the tolerance paradox regarding human rights. It’s those on the political extremes that call for the death of others.

Centrist doesn’t mean spineless, unless you’re referring to the group of US Overton window centrists who are actually bigots, but most people are fairly centrist and not like those people. We’re just being polarized beyond belief and forgetting that.
