The bolt-action rifle that killed charlie kirk was legally owned and Utah doesn’t even require a license for it. It did require a background check, but that never stops anyone

How do we know it was legally owned? Did they catch the perp?

exactly. these guns (more powerful than a handgun) dont even require registration. they do add ur name to form 4473 tho but it is legal to privately buy it from another individual (in which case your name isnt recorded at all)

As it should be.

more powerful ≠ more dangerous and that's coming from somebody who supports stronger gun regulations. handguns are super dangerous

a handgun couldnt have killed charlie kirk, he had security on the ground, what he (and trump) couldnt prevent was the ability for someone to climb one of the many roofs in the area and shoot from a very far distance. which riffles allow for

handguns at least have to be used on the ground and so security perimeters can sometimes catch them. the existence of riffles makes every single outdoor event (with rooftops or hills nearby) unsafe

And do they know who it belonged to? Not everyone can legally own a gun

the shooter can, he’s 18+ and utah only requires one of the most minimal background checks there are. also the rifle is legal to buy/sell independently. meaning if he bought it from a random person on the side of the road, that’s also legal

handguns are significantly more dangerous. just because a handful of situations have been long ranged attacks that require a rifle doesn't mean rifles are deadlier

youre not understanding what im saying we can live in a world with handguns easier than a world with riffles. what makes guns so dangerous is the distance at which a person can be to take a life. if someone can be 200+ yards away, they feel more confident they can escape after. if someone has to be close range in order to fire accurately, it means large events can have perimeters set up that check for guns before coming in.

do you remember the las vegas shooting at the concert? im sure anyone would agree that being stuck in a crowd being shot from above liek fish in a barrel, is far scarier than a man on the ground with a hand gun. it’s harder to prevent, and a scarier reality to live in. not even to mention how many more bullets can be fired and rapidly.
