because i’m critical of an industry notorious for facilitating the abuse, rape, and trafficking of vulnerable young women? lmfao

You’re equivocating sex work with human trafficking and abuse. Surely you don’t think those two things are inseparable?

because rape, trafficking, and abuse are cornerstone to sex work, especially for impoverished women. i’m not going to act like johns are innocent or that the sex industry is Wholesome Chungus #EmpoweringWomenMoment

I don’t think there is much sex work going on today that isn’t abusive/predatory to women, but to say that sex work can never exist without abuse/predation seems insane to me. How could you possibly know that?

a financial incentive for participating in sex is coercion and therefore rape. i also just do not believe porn or sex work is ethical, empowering, or “fair” to women as PEOPLE. you’re free to disagree but i’m tired and not keen on getting into a debate right now

I’m a woman and I’m inclined to agree with #2. I think that sex work can exist without being human trafficking and prostitution. Of course there are a lot of situations in which sex work can be harmful, but not every sex worker should be shamed for their work if they are choosing to do it.

Are all financial exchanges coercive, or just the ones involving sex? If you’re carving out an exception for sex, please explain your reasoning.

Not every sex worker has to have a financial incentive either. One of my friends is on OnlyFans and genuinely enjoys it and finds it empowering

also calling me a swerf literally means nothing. i’m not excluding sex workers from my feminism; i want better for women, ALL women, and that means sex workers too. i want a world where women are not pressured (socially, personally, financially) into participating in their own exploitation

I think to assume every woman who does sex work is pressured into it is an unfair assumption

I’m calling you a SWERF because you seem to believe that it is logically impossible for a woman to consentingly engage in sex work, which I am unconvinced of. Additionally, while you claim to want liberation for all sex workers, you seem to prescribe that all women who currently are sex workers ought not be sex workers.

Ive seen them say horrible things about abby Shapiro because of her larger chest, like yeahshe perpetuates misogyny too but the way they sexualize her makes me uncomfortable, also a lot of them aren’t very intersectional with their activism and kinda don’t look at issues that predominantly affect women with a lot of empathy, and especially not leftist women what disagree with them on different issues, their usage of “bitch” “whore”, “slut”, etc is excessive and more often than not in poor taste

yes, i do believe that in a world without patriarchy there would be no sex industry, and therefore no sex workers. and because we do not live in a post-patriarchal society, i’m not fully convinced of any woman truly making that choice “for herself.” we do not exist in a vacuum where our choices are free from external influence.

Can you give an argument for that claim? Also, I still want your take on whether all financial exchanges are coercive.

misogynistic slurs & language absolutely are a huge problem because it’s not taken as a serious issue. thank you for recognizing it, especially when it’s directed towards their fellow leftist women.

women, an by extension lesbians, are also not free from perpetuating misogyny & the exploitation of women (in the case of lesbian johns). also many lesbian sex workers still have to have sex with men

I’m asking SPECIFICALLY in the case of sex workers who solely have sex with women, how is that perpetuating the patriarchy?

Yeah, I’d like to hear you defend the claim that sex work would not exist without the patriarchy. Additionally, I want to know if you believe that all financial exchanges are coercive.
