we need to protest for regulations on AI bc it doesn’t seem like it’s going away any time soon no matter how much we stop using it

You don’t have to boycott ai as a tool to boycott evil dipshits that host ai like ChatGPT or Claude

Ah yes, thinking AI shouldn’t exist and be available for people to use is so smart and wanting to use it could only mean it’s because you want to support multi billion dollar companies 🙄

They usually mean generative AI when they say this. For some reason they insist on not saying “gen AI” and prefer to just be vague

The place I work at (retail) adopted an AI chat or for employees to talk to if they have questions. It’s so fucking annoying and I can’t wait for the bubble to explode

That’s actually super helpful and I wish my company expanded it. We have so much documentation scattered all over the place and half the time it’s outdated

Bubble might pop soon but those kinds of chatbots are here to stay. Putting “AI” in every sales pitch will go away though

I should have included context: I work for a technology company that has hundreds of vendors, and all of our processes are incredibly complicated and have special exceptions for certain clients and vendors. It’s an actual pain in the ass to find information

I doubt it. It took me over half an hour to solve a problem with the chat bot when I could have called and gotten it done in five minutes.

Yeah, we’re talking about different things then. I either have no one to call or there are 500 people that potentially know the answer, and it may or may not be written in some file with some absurd title

The position I work in requires me to talk to a production center, and handle orders for businesses, organizations, etc

Yeah same here… everyone uses files you think you’re special

I didn’t say I was special? In my case there’s no one to call lol. There’s no faster way for me to do it. You said that in your case, calling would be faster

AI being used to research and break barriers is way different than the glorified search engines and porn generators that get made for the public.

I made that distinction. That’s generative AI. You said “no I said what I said”

No you never said anything about research until that comment.

Idk why, protesting for regulations against surveillance seems easier. That’s something that’s somewhat bipartisan. You’d get Rand Paul’s vote if it made it to the senate. We need national data privacy legislation. But in the meantime, bother your state legislature about it too. Like 10 states have those laws enacted already

I’m oddly confident that we’ll reach a point soon where it’ll be difficult to get Congress to reauthorize the Patriot Act or FISA Section 702

God forbid we are allowed to make custom porn tailored to our interests

Unfortunately, those interests sometimes involve children, and I assume that’s what OP was referring to
