US didn’t have a large standing army until end of WWII, big parades tended to be at the end of military conflicts before military went back to civilian life - 200 was end of defeat and unrest and end of Vietnam war

And it could’ve been but in a different way. I love our military, I like learning about it, but when we have veterans that are homeless, struggling with mental health (and this has been a problem for multiple admins), $45 million on a parade seems wasteful (especially from a president talking about waste).
