in 2020 we had - pandemic ravaging the nation - mass protests and riots - economic implosion but because some of y’all were 14 when that happened, you didn’t realize a single term of a trump presidency left us in shambles and you voted for him.

i’m still so insanely mad at younger gen z for the way they voted. 18-20 year olds in this nation are fuckin bricks for brains.

I’m 22, and I do not understand how people who were 14 back then don’t see Trump is evil! I was 16-17 during the pandemic. I remember it well. My sister was 12-13 then, and she’s as progressive as they come. Wtf people

yeah i was gonna follow up this post with another one highlighting how insanely different i am at 24 compared to the average 18 or 19 year old. and also how different i was at 18 and 19 than these kids are.

Literally. Im 25 and the juxtaposition of people my age cohort versus the people just a few years younger is uhhhhh It has to be when the pandemic interrupted social development. Like yeah we lost the social life in college, but our brains were nearly done cooking. Not so for the kids in high school or younger when everything shut down

i just don’t believe a year in front of computers, that all those kids were already spending too much time in front of to begin with, caused…this. people act like the lockdowns were harsh and kept people locked in their houses for years when they were realistically very lax (part of why covid never actually went away and only started to curve once the vaccines were available) and lasted like 9-12 months. there’s something else going on beyond that.

That is true, and there are *many* factors that led us (or rather, them) to this. I still think that the explosion of tiktok during that time and all the conspiracy shit and Andrew Tate and his ilk played a big role in helping shape kids' worldviews when they didn't have the opportunity to experience anything for themselves, and thus no reference points for realizing "wait what they're saying is all bullshit" This will be very fun for future historians to figure out

yeah, i do think the lockdowns contributed as well as the storm on the internet that began to brew around that time. but god, it’s gotta be deeper than that. we looked like we were poised to be the most progressive generation since the boomers of the 60s and now i’m convinced we’re gen x 2.0 except even worse somehow.
