Okay I’m left-leaning before you shit on me too much, but why do so many liberals seem to hate America? Why is it that the only people who are proud to be American are those fat inbred MAGA people?

We don’t hate America we hate what it’s become. An oligarchy ruled by corporate greed and ppl more wealthy than entire countries. The dream is on life support

I think the trap the left falls in to is taking the hill of “hating America” but what people don’t actually understand is that they don’t hate the country they hate the state of the country and advocate for equality and equity through the means or social and economic change. When it comes down to it the party in power of self proclaimed “patriots” are willfully and intentionally destroying the country are they really patriots? No. A real “patriot” wants their country to prosper.

Yeah I know it’s obviously bad, it’s been like that throughout our entire history. My point is why is it that being a proud American makes you look like a conservative. I saw a poll where like 80% of women wouldn’t date a guy with the American flag tattooed on him

Conservatives have nationalistic tendencies here. There’s a difference between that and being patriotic. The idea that your country is superior to all others isn’t patriotic it’s nationalist. Flag tattoo screams nationalist

Yeah I guess that makes sense. Although I disagree on the flag tattoo part because Europeans do that a lot and no one sees it as a problem

Not sure why you wanna know but okay. I didn’t agree with the handling of COVID and I am not a huge fan of socialism (not a huge fan of extreme capitalism like we have either tbf). Also I disagree with the extreme-ness of many liberals nowadays, especially online

I think “the left” has the serious claim to real “patriotism” but patriotism has turned in to a word that is hard to differentiate from nationalism in how it describes the people who subscribe to the term and it’s hard to ignore how closely linked they are and how slippery the slop of being a patriot can lead to knowingly or unknowingly becoming a nationalist.
