1) I wasn’t talking about him, I was talking about the woman that just won her primary and Ilhan Omar, and 2) It doesn’t matter how many pride flags they wave, as long as they support Islamic fundamentalism they will be anti gay in my eyes. After all, that’s how it works with you and Christians, right?
Idk why you think fundamentalist Muslims are “my side.” They’re regressive conservative religious extremists. It’s the same reason I’m against the southern baptists or Hindutava. And Uganda recently made homosexuality a criminal offense because of the influence of American churches. Christianity on average is less extreme but I hate extremism either way.
Idk, I actually think an official government that criminalizes homosexuality is deserving of MUCH more critiques than a couple anti gay baseball players. We’re definitely not a perfect country for gay people, but anyone who acts like we’re not one of the best countries in the world for them is lying to themselves
Okay and what do you think critiques from a queer sports website is going to do? People are going to prioritize activism which has a chance to actually change something. Local people are going to try to fix something like bullying in a local school more than genocide in Myanmar because it’s something they have the capacity to impact. Do you think we should ignore all homophobia here just because there’s worse homophobia somewhere else?
I understand your argument, but as an American of Polish ancestry, to say or imply that either of those countries are even close to the level of Iran, North Korea, Russia, etc that reeks of privilege. I see people saying on X and other social medias with 100% sincerity that there’s a genocide if LGBTQ people in the US right now
People are going to understandably prioritize local issues that impact them and that they have the capacity to change. We cannot just neglect every problem in our country just because somewhere else it is worse. We should focus on both, but people can do the most to actually impact the thing that is local to them.
