This Yikyak is the only place I’ve seen Catholics make a political alliance with full on Socialists/Communists and I think that’s beautiful

Forgive me if I sound blasphemous or misinformed but is that not kinda what Jesus’s social teachings leaned toward

Both Communism and Socialism are ideologies specifically condemned by the Catholic Church for hundreds of years. Both are completely unacceptable philosophies for any devout Catholic to hold. Pope Saint John Paul Il focused many of his encyclicals on the evils of Communism, many of which he witnessed firsthand in Poland. Catholics making a "political alliance" is at best spiritually dangerous and at worst full heresy. Be extremely careful with the ideologies you associate with Catholic teaching.

Saying “Jesus was a socialist” is a bit extreme just cause he was around 1800 years before Marx but like….eye of a needle though

I mean yea I read about how the apostles lived and it’s like, these guys literally had everyone who joined them sell all their possessions and use the money to feed the poor. Like how is this compatible with modern day capitalism

It’s not. There’s a specific strain of theological thought called Liberation Theology that focuses on that contradiction between Christianity and Capitalism (and resolves it by abandoning Capitalism and being almost explicitly Marxist)

His teachings were undoubtedly pro-life and pro-family. Both Communism and Socialism are certainly not.

what is your perspective on how they undermine the family & on why capitalism is a good thing for the family?

what is your perspective on why they were supposedly condemned but not capitalism or any other way of doing things? I see capitalism as inherently exploitative. Socialism has been done in bad ways (mostly bc of fascism from what i can tell) but people also attack socialism to justify the erosion of social services so idk. I think we all want to find the least harmful way to do things
