Because that doesn’t make sense? Consequences naturally scale with responsibility and laws should reflect that. An airline pilot faces much greater repercussions for negligence than a passenger car driver does because of the responsibility of the role the number of people who you are tasked with protecting. Why should the equivalent of a J walker get charged the same way a negligent ships captain should be?

Also worth thinking who’s able to and motivated to dishonestly manipulate the system in their favor and that is clearly the most powerful people, the presidents and ceos. They absolutely deserve harsher sentences and a more critical investigations
