Dude you realize why centrists democrats exist right? There are more conservatives than far left liberals in their state. So they exist in a grey area where they can get elected but constantly deal with Republican legislatures and senates at the state level and they also are stuck. They go far left they lose their lone seat of democratic power and you get them replaced with a Trump conservative every single time. They have to play a very narrow minded game

As a Centrist, language like yours makes me want to vote Republican. I probably will in Midterms. I’m just tired of the arrogance of Leftists. It’s really tiring their daily lectures

Gng one side is actively destroying the country and the other is doing nothing about it so your solution is to vote for the side destroying shit?

I mean if that's all it takes for you to vote republican it means you have no real ideology that you adhere to & just go off of vibes. So I wouldn't be surprised if you vote Republican since you're reactionary

I personally believe these centrist Dems that fear partisan redistricting or progressive policies are operating in other an outdated, defensive-minded political strategy that actively hampers the Dems’ long-term success. Why not focus on inspiring non-voters, youth voters, marginalized communities left behind by MAGA’s policies rather than the dwindling swing voters that don’t exist in high numbers in this political climate?

You got it. VA was 3 seats from a Republican trifecta 2.5 years ago and had a GOP supermajority in the state house 10 years ago. Dems can’t go too far left here

That's a lie we’re feed to conceive us better things aren't possible. People in red states like progressive policies too. But begin to hate them when they are labeled socialist.

Because in a state like TN where I live those don’t exist. We have massive turnout and it’s just a mostly republican state. You have to target mostly older marginalized by maga former republicans. The voters that you are talking about are already within camp it’s just not enough.

If you run a good campaign a progressive can win. I live in CA a blue state strong hold. Fun fact this state wasn't always blue it used to be red. Run on fixing the economy & lowering the cost of living & using the money we send to Israel on your community instead

Partially because the red moved places like Tennessee. Yes it was flipped TN used to be blue. The dems left and ended up in democratic strongholds. I have a masters in political science. I wish I could be progressive I wish I could run as a true liberal. I have to say independent and fund raise for myself. It’s not that simple. The people in this state are as hard red as it gets and most of them left the liberal stronghold that is California

A state like VA is very moderate-liberal, moderate suburbanites just rly dislike Trump so they vote Dem. But you have cases like 2021 where they vote GOP b/c of culture war nonsense

Yeah that's what happens when Dems do a bad job of messaging against culture war nonsense & lean into the rights framing on issues

You don’t understand what I see everyday. The marginalized communities are all voting blue. It isn’t enough. The only available voters are republicans disenfranchised by Trump. This isn’t a Densly populated state and more importantly it’s one that’s rapidly growing with California and Ny republicans leaving what they perceive as a liberal utopia. The voters you discuss are already voting blue to the highest turnout possible in these states.

in 2023 VA Dems had better messaging (particularly against abortion restrictions) and ended up w/ 51-49 & 21-19 majorities in the state house and senate

I'm not saying people in red states need to be direct copies of Zohran Mamdani. At the same time I don't believe that they have to be a Joe Manchin & spend part of your time sabotaging the wants of Dems base refusing to fight for anything

Most people are pro-choice. But abortion rights alone aren't enough especially when most people are mad with the president & blame him for the economy on top of having short term memory of what Trump was like

…and when a lot of VA voters are more moderate, particularly downballot. VA just isn’t like CA. An example: CA’s redistricting referendum passed 64-36; VA’s passed 51-48

That’s fair but you bring up health care in TN or any form of gun legislation you are done. You bring up any form of support for homosexuality your campaign ends there, reigning in police brutality that’s it right there done and so on. I’m saying you have to understand these people are walking on egg shells. They can’t be out there even if they personally want to. They have to look the part of a conservative in this state.

I mean yeah I’m not claiming VA& CA are the same. Hell I genuinely think our next governor is going to be a centrist dem although I don't think it's because that's what most of the state wants but more sure due to the way politics work in the state. Although to say the whatever dem wins in VA has to weak is bs. States can flip

I think a lot of it is messaging. Again progressive policies tend to be popular with conservatives until they find out it’s a progressive policy. You can run a progressive campaign in a red state but your messaging would have to be different. You could advocate for many of the same things as Zohran Mamdani without running the same campaign

Yeah it’s a very fine line. You basically have to say you support the current Legislative status on it
