OP is either lying or misinformed. it pre-dates the klan, back to nativist and know-nothing party policy in 1850s US
Reminder: The “America first” rhetoric was first popularized by “Grand Dragon” Edward Fields, who was very high up in the klan.

I get you’re saying he founded a party called “America first.” Im saying he wasn’t the first to spread America first rhetoric, which was what you claimed

Fair point. but counterpoint - nobody alive today was around for the others, except for maybe the nazi sympathizing America first committee in the early 1940s. Anyone around today would’ve been children then. The modern idea behind it (albeit less overtly hate driven) was grand dragon dude

What does who’s alive today have to do with the origins of America first rhetoric?

Because it’s what everyone today is going to associate it with, if not just Trump. Being alive for cultural events like this has far greater weight on an individual than knowledge of the past, or lackthereof

Plenty of people do. It’s obviously changed over time, but trumps America first is more in line with fields’ America first than the America first of the ‘40s. There are too many people that still hold onto that hateful rhetoric in some parts of the country. Hearing “America first” again would be like a dog whistle to them.
