Holy shit…can you people stop talking about fucking Prions when you don’t know anything about it? Talk about salmonella, E. coli, or listeria. Talk about a REALISTIC threat, not some insane hyper specific disease that 1 out of every million people get.bisexualmaozedong
They are wanting meat processing to be deregulated. "only 4 companies" could be fixed without lowering standards of regulation. Do you know what a prion disease is? Do you know why we have so much regulations? I don't like monopolies, but use your brains.Kinda agree, in that there are many other untreatable deadly diseases that might be in you for years without activating The hard part is just that it’s very hard to get rid of Prions without like incinerating everything around it. And unlike the UK, the USA doesn’t have the guts to incinerate cows that might have prions
No. That’s not what makes it notably rare. There are specific BSE controls outside of normal processing regulations that make it rare. This is the same exact logic people use when they thought Israel or Russia were going to start using nukes. It’s nonsensical and is specifically fear-mongering for the sake of it. I’m not telling you that you have to like Trumps stupid ass decision, I’m saying that it is entirely separate and there are bigger worries then mad cow
Ehh…I mean they’ll cull entire herds if one has it. They did the same for chicken/turkey farms with bird flu…but yes, the argument keeps getting centered around prions which is extremely frustrating given none of these dipshits know anything about it other than OMG IT CAN BE CURED AND ITS 100% MORTALITY OMGGGG
joker… I’m going to hold your hand through this. which two agencies are responsible for monitoring and enforcing the legislative methods of control implemented after the BSE crisis in the 90s? now, how crippled have those same two agencies become since becoming under target by the administration? stop disingenuously acting as if the only risk is the most recent deregulation. like of course the fenceriding centrist will view everything as fear mongering
I have been, dipshit. You are acting like prion will be some massive pandemic world-ending disease if regulations from meat processing is pulled, when that’s not even what was pulled. Those same smaller facilities would still have to follow BSE guidelines. All they’re doing here is bringing up the fact that this raises prion disease chances from a non-zero % chance.
ah yes, you, a mere employee at a farm, directly deals with the fda or usda (if you even work there, since you’ve claimed to merely “help out from time to time”) totally not bullshitting on an online forum to avoid acknowledging when you’re wrong, right? it’s not like you have a history of being an arrogant fuck who can’t utter the words “I’m wrong”. why do you insist on embarrassing yourself?
and you wonder why people have criticized you for being so similar to the fascists you claim to oppose? did you think that deflection was going to help you? or are you just that desperate to avoid addressing the link between adequate funding and staffing with the capability for the fda and usda to enforce legislation?
but nonetheless, the only reason I mentioned deleting the post is because this is utterly meaningless. like what is the point? you’re acting as if we’re saying the revocation of a single piece of regulation will lead to a rise in prion disease when we’re all saying that’s not what we mean; then you refuse to address when we actually discuss the contents of our worry (being a rising trend of deregulations across multiple industries as well as a massive intentional slashing of funds and staffing
you might as well be a flat-earther with that level of arrogance and narcissism. yeah, your beliefs on what others mean when they say things, despite being contrary to what they actually claim to be their thought process, is definitely more important and truthful than anything else. actually ridiculous.
The only example of a prion disease being common in humans was a tribe in papua new guinea that had a tradition of eating the brains of the dead. The fact that there is only one recorded example of prions being a significant cause of death in a human population in history makes it pretty clear it would be rare regardless of regulation. Thats not to say that regulation can’t help.
Actually, let me correct myself on this to be crystal clear. The people who disagree here either thoroughly believe that prions is a real threat OR they know the actual information behind prions disease and are using it as a fearmonger to smuggle in the broader point of why deregulation of the meat industry is bad. They don’t know what the term DISTINCTION means.
entirely overlooking the BSE crisis, are we? the kuru epidemic predated the BSE crisis by about 4 decades, so at the bare minimum claiming that the kuru epidemic was the only recorded instance of prions being a significant cause of death is disingenuous at best, or outright dishonest at worst.
The BSE crisis is exactly why I’m distinguishing BSE controls from meat regulation generally. The UK outbreak was driven primarily by infected ruminant material being recycled into cattle feed, and the response was targeted at feed bans, surveillance, culling, and removal of specified-risk tissues. If you’re claiming current deregulation raises prion risk, show which of those BSE safeguards is being weakened. We don’t operate under the feeding conditions that allowed for the UK outbreak.
I’m not talking to you, and if you wanted to discuss BSE controls you had this opportunity earlier when I mentioned the defunding of the FDA and USDA. do not be mistaken, I’m responding to 9 (as my comment was directed to them). feel free to actually address the shit you’ve been deflecting, and we can continue our conversation. aka shut the fuck up joker, you’ve been disingenuous and arrogant as fuck this entire conversation.
