Personal trainer here if you’ve hit a plateau, try a “gym detox.” Train in the gym just twice a week: one intense upper day, one lower. The rest of the week, do bodyweight exercises for whatever isn’t sore. If everything’s sore, hit abs. And every time you die in a video game, drop and do abs, push-ups, air squats, or frog squats.
The goal is recovery, not burnout. You’re giving your muscles time to heal and grow—but you still need to keep them stimulated. Calisthenics help maintain that tension and movement without overloading the body. It’s okay to scale back gym time as long as you’re using bodyweight work to stay active.
