Older people with “tech anxiety” are low key annoying as fuck cuz you had the same amount of time as me to learn this technology… In fact, you’ve actually had MORE time to adjust. I was a baby. You were a full grown adult.

Idk I’m getting older and I think I’m less interested in new stuff and more interested in function or sticking to what I know. Still not an excuse but I imagine a lot of people start feeling this way and that’s how they get so out of touch

All sorts of excuses to be lazy out there. I've never even heard of tech anxiety.

The main problem is with 40-60 year olds. I work in an assisted living for DEMENTIA patients and they are more tech savvy than my mom, they’re out here calling, texting, FaceTiming and sending photos to their family

At my job we have a kiosk system for a virtual line, and the amount of grown adults (most on the older side) that throw fits about is insane. They don’t even try and will do anything to try to get past using it. This is an every day thing. Like it’s not hard to press two buttons and type in your name and date of birth.

Never heard of tech anxiety but cmon… if you’re talking about seniors (even older adults), neuroplasticity is objectively so much lower the older you get

You have to actively combat that imo. Obviously when you’re old asf it’s a little too late for that… But if you’re in your 30s-40s and feel like you’re getting left behind technologically… you WILL get left behind if you don’t update your skills… which is what happened to them

That’s why you update those skills before your neuroplasticity declines

It’s not tone deaf to think people should be aware of their own declining neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is something that happens to EVERYONE with age. You can almost predict it. HOWEVER, you can REDUCE the decline of your own neuroplasticity by exercising your brain with continued learning as you age. It’s like a muscle. Don’t use it? You lose it.

Also, if you read my comments, you would see that addressed elderly people, and I also addressed why I don’t think it’s an excuse. If you’re in 30s-40s and feel like you’re being left behind as technology advances, it’s on YOU to keep up… because you WILL be left behind.

Cuz if you CHOOSE to not keep up with technological advancements, that is your own fault.

have fun with all that hate in your heart or whatever. disparaging old people and not having an ounce of empathy to understand that someone is approaching the world with different predispositions than you is a weird hill to die on.

“Have fun with all that hate in your heart” Good fuckin’ bye you’re not getting me with that shit 🤣🤣🤣 Yes. I’m NOT empathetic for people who are intentionally put themselves through learned helplessness. Not sorry about that. And literally all I said was cognitive and neuroplastic decline is inevitable, but there are steps you can take to reduce it, such as being OPEN to learning. After a certain age, some people CHOOSE to close themselves OFF from learning. Continued learning is a choice.

The people who struggle with technology NOW were at an age where they could’ve chosen to kept up with advancement if they wanted to, but they DIDN’T. I have coworkers in their 60s who know more about technology than coworkers in their 50s. That’s proof right there. And it’s VERY clear that you’re just annoyed no one’s agreeing with you, so you’re trying to “moral compass” your way through this convo.

And to call what I said “disparaging” is such an INCREDIBLE exaggeration—I’m impressed. To “disparage” is different than to criticize… which is what I’m doing. I’m criticizing individuals in that specific age group for choosing to not keep up with technology when they previously had the cognitive capacity to do so.

I literally acknowledged that too, “obviously when you’re old asf it’s a little too late for that. But if you’re in you’re 30s - 40s and feeling like you’re getting left behind as technology advances, you WILL get let behind if you don’t update your skills” That’s not disparaging. It’s a statement. A cause and effect.
