Cause online applications have fucked up the whole process, made it less personal and easier for companies to cherry pick the very best. Now we have ai searching through job applications which makes it worse, since if you don’t use the exact language the ai is looking for you’re never getting picked. And there are fake job applications for several reasons. The most obvious is to collect personal data of people so they can do whatever with it, but legit companies also want to look like they
Bc most sites like indeed use AI to shuffle through resúmes/applications and search for key words that are associated with the job listing. If you don't have the keywords or the specific language that the AI is scanning for, your application basically gets put to the side. Your best bet is to start trying to apply in person, or applying online and then getting in contact with a hiring manager. Just put a face to the application. So they know who they're reading about.

they just want to sell our data or train ai bots with it. or in the rare case a job posting is real they only want the unicorn applicant that has the exact requirements on the job posting willing to work for barely above min wage and even then it’s a 90% chance you’ll get ghosted after a few interview rounds bc they found someone else
But this happens all the time. Employers make a long list of things their dream candidate would have an automatically ignore the rest without a second look because, with all these people applying, they can do that! But even if you technically check all the boxes of the right major and number of years “relevant” experience, you still might not be the right fit.
