It’s illegal for them to not pay you for getting there early to “clock in”. Big class action lawsuit from Starbucks. It took 10 seconds for the employees to unlock the door, then get to the computer to lunch in. Starbucks got sued for not paying them for those 10 seconds they lost. Legally, when you enter your works doors, you are ON the clock. Check with an attorney if your boss has an issue.

Had a job a while back try saying this. Told them I will get there early if they would pay me the 10 - 15 mins early I got in on top of my shift or let me leave early once I’ve covered the hours my shift was supposed to be. If they’re going to penalize you for being a little late but won’t pay you the extra time you get in early, find another job cause it’s gonna get worse
