Listen, did the USMNT win the game? No. But did they capture the hearts and minds of the people, inspire the next generation of American talent, and go out honorably with their heads held high? Also no.

They way they played last night, gave up ran amok no one should be a fan of them. And yes I’m actually questioning my fandom. Haven’t seen many teams give up like the USMNT did last night

You are a fair-weather fan. Real fans support their team even when we're disappointed in their performance.

No it’s not just their performance. They gave up, didn’t care anymore. You realize how bad that is for a player of your national team? In a game at the World Cup?

If you’re struggling to be a fan after last night’s performance then I have no idea how you’ve survived the last 10 years

I remember vividly I was in my room when it happened and caught the end of the game when they were losing to Trinidad and Tobago. We have different definitions of failure for this team. I think having a home World Cup and quitting in the middle of the game is worse than not qualifying

That’s because we weren’t even IN competitions like this except for the 22 World Cup where we honestly barely made it out of the group. In other words, we didn’t even have pants to poop

22 World Cup was twice as good as this one imo at least they didn’t stop trying to equalize against the Netherlands. They did in the 2026 RO16

I disagree. I would rather win the group and a knockout game than fail to qualify in a match against Trinidad. I feel like that should be obvious.

I disagree. With a performance where they genuinely stopped trying, that is inexcusable. I would rather them stay home than have them play scared like they did last night

Personally, Winning the group and a knockout game, losing in the round of 16 to a quality team > Not qualifying at all It's pretty simple

Anonymous replying to -> #8 10h

You are simplifying my arguments. It’s not that they lost. It’s that they gave up and stopped trying. Anyone supporting that is the real dunce. Yes I would rather have a team that tries and doesn’t qualify than one that gives up on the pitch and rolls over and waits for the game to end

My jaw dropped when they took out Pulisic. A real superstar would’ve pushed through, and good coaches would’ve put some pride back into their players

It’s not that we’re defending the team giving up. We’re not trying to say that (or at least I’m not), what we’re arguing with you about is giving up on supporting them at all. You want them to act like a proper team and not give up, then we as fans and supporters also need to not give up on them

I always take a team that puts effort the whole games. Not putting effort into a game for your country is the ultimate sports sin

They are done for none of them have any real passion for playing for the US. Dest was awful last night and seemed like he was ready to get subbed off. No protesting of the subbing off. I can tell you so many other moments of the game where the team was genuinely checked out

One shit match with some errors and they've "lost your support" You're a loser. If you don't mind me asking, which club do you support? Personally, supporting a mid-tier bundesliga team I'm used to hardship in this sport. It's not always going to be perfect, we're not always going to win, and sometimes we'll lose and look like dogshit and I'll be unbelievably disappointed. That's part of the game. It can be cruel. You don't revoke your support due to one lackluster performance though.

Again, i understand that part and am in agreement with you on that. Our best player by far was Malik Tillman last night. However, other players like Chris Richards, Balogun, and Freeman had a good tournament overall. We have other young, up and coming players who I think would kill to play for the USMNT badge like Diego Luna (who should’ve been apart of the squad)

On top of that this was our first World Cup in a long time with an actual manager who knows what he’s doing. If Poch sticks around and helps build a legit foundation for this team, we COULD become something great. But part of that responsibility falls on us as fans to continue backing our guys through thick and thin and not abandoning them

Well I support my local club which is Atlanta United (so I also know a thing or two about hard times 😭) but I’ve been into football since like 2014 when I was a lot younger and Atl Utd wasn’t even a concept yet, so I began supporting Manchester City because my favorite color is light blue. Didn’t find out about the oil money stuff til much later and by then I wasn’t gonna switch clubs

Bro the growth the MLS has gotten recently makes me so happy. Is it mostly because of Messi? Sure. But honestly who cares? It’s bringing more attention to the league as a whole and we’re actively seeing growth and improvement of the league. Now all we need to do is get a relegation/promotion system going and we’ll be golden

Have you not been following this situation or people’s reactions to it at all? People are upset that *Trump* may or may not have had some part to play in Balogun’s red card penalty getting suspended, making it pretty clear government interference in a sport and that’s what has people upset. The USNMT didn’t ask Trump to do that. Trump has everything to do with the situation
