I have a weird thing where I like giving characters really decent backgrounds, then putting them through hell during the story

Well—in the case I’m thinking of, I started him off by making him working minimum wage as protection for a loan shark, and a quarter of the way through the story he was having his toenails pulled off and his intestines blended slightly

I don’t know—I never finished the story, because halfway through completion it was getting repetitive and boring. It remains the most complete story I’ve ever written.
