^^ like if we’re gonna be okay with peter parker having abilities the human body cannot replicate irl, we can be okay with a little fake science

It isn’t, though.

I mean, I write fantasy so I’ve always been told about “the rule of disbelief” i.e. as long as it makes sense within the universe it doesn’t have to follow our laws of physics or whatever

Just because you made it up doesn’t mean it makes sense.

Well, the people who buy my shit and publish my fiction don’t have to wonder if it makes sense or not. But have fun at the parties. I’m sure they’ll help you accept warranted criticism and improve your shitty writing in no time.

I just don’t think you understand what genre I said I write broski. Fantasy at its core bends the laws of physics and has scientifically impossible things happen. It’s what literally MAKES the genre. It’s supposed to suspend belief. My post was about poking fun at people like you who don’t understand that.

And it still should make sense. But keep thinking you are exempt from that expectation and that you—singularly and all on your own—are the first person ever to figure out a plausible way around that pitfall. Fucking tumblr rats.

Guys according to the first commenter no one can ever write something good with non-possible elements. Frankenstein? It’s shit. The Hobbit? It’s shit. ASOIAF? It’s shit.

they have a point despite the asshole-y way they said it. if you lay down a set of rules but then have someone who comes in and saves the day while defying those rules, the suspension of disbelief is completely broken and readers won’t care abt what happens. if you don’t care abt readers and are writing for fun, then it’s ok tho lol

oh OP already mentioned suspension of disbelief and #1 was still acting goofy. idk what they were on about then 😭
