does anybody else feel like their writing voice is the most pretentious piece of shit ever? like if I came across someone who talked the way I write I would steal their money and run away
Literallyyy it’s a constant struggle because if I talked as obnoxious as I feel like my writing is, especially non fiction works, I would want someone to punch that shi out of me immediately.

Reading more contemporary books may help. If I read too many old books back to back, I'll start writing a poorman's Beowulf. Also, try going to a writer's circle and getting feedback because you could just be overthinking it.

I think the hardest thing about writing is blocking out the fact that it’s ME saying it. Like established writers can say whatever, but when I say it I’m a gross little cringe gremlin. At least that’s what I tell myself

Fr idk I feel like pick big words or saying things in a fluffy way bc it’s just more fun (honestly even when I’m talking) but then I hear myself and I always feel like it probably comes off rlly pretentious and condescending, when I’m rlly just saying words that I like to say 😭

If it’s bothering you, make an appointment with Dr. Hemingway.
