context: my bf and i got into a fight. he said he wasn’t privileged like me. i was so angry. angry with the word privilege. angry at him. so out of nowhere i just wrote this. i’m not sharing it with him but i do give him the credit for making me turn my anger into this writing piece

privilege isn't a binary. it's not a yes or no thing. it's a spectrum, all of which is relative. ppl see it as a dirty word and it bothers me how everybody wants to avoid acknowledging the ways they're privileged like it's a competition

i wasn’t trying to be hateful or anything it’s just he (my bf) was coming at me for being “privileged” bc my parents wanted to fly him for a quick 1-2 day trip all paid for but he kept saying he didn’t have the money for it

i am so grateful for the opportunities i’ve been given through connections, trips i’ve been on etc, but most importantly i’m glad i have what i have (a bed, clothes, a house) bc ive been to places where they don’t have that ir they do but it’s clothes that are too small, or a house falling apart

i think the greatest privilege of all tho is that in one way or another some people can experience life. i’m not talking traveling the world but i mean as feeling the warm sun, the coolness overtaking your body when the wind blows, laughing for the first time, etc
