i really wanna write a religious, LGBT book, but write it where they fall harder for each other because they see God in each other instead of pulling away because of what the church says 🤔

I’m not religious but that’s really beautiful and I’d read it

If you haven’t read the color purple you absolutely should! I mean I think everyone should but it has some similar themes that might help you!

Currently writing a fantasy novel based in Buddhism that's also incorporating LGBT characters in it. I'm doing a lot of commentary on class structure in it. In Buddhism authority is often borderline worshiped, but I want to challenge that.

if i were to write it’d be christian since i’m christian and that’s the religion i know the most about! but i said religious as a general term

ah, gotcha. I thought it was people of two different religions who eventually realize they can still love each other while holding different beliefs regardless of what their respective churches tell them (along with the conflict that one/both religions are somewhat or entirely against queer people)

i was just going to have one be christian and the other not believe in anything, but i so love your idea and think that’s beautiful! i have written a little blurb of a praticing hellenic polytheist dating a christian though! it was fun

them both being Christian (whether they’re same denomination or not) could also be really interesting, especially if there’s an imbalance between their struggles (like if one of them had a very queer-friendly church or knew a gay/trans/aspec theologian who studied the Bible from a queer lens, and the other had a phobic family/church community)

i wanted to take the common “christian x atheist” trope but instead of it being one or the other has to step away from their beliefs or something i wanted them to grow together because of it

that would also be a fun new perspective!

tbh I think any story discussing the intersection between religion & queerness is wonderful, I hope you don’t feel pressured by anything I’m saying 😭 whatever you write with this can have infinite potential

oh i don’t feel pressured at all! i love your ideas! i just had one thought in my head lol! i’ve written a little about two christians in a queer coming together and getting married in their church and also the one a mentioned before! your ideas are great and i appreciate them

ahh yeah… speaking from experience, a lot of queer atheists don’t react well to any religion (especially Abrahamic ones) so I wonder how conflict might arise either from the reveal that one is religious or the (also atheist & queer) friends of the atheist queer partner finding out they’re dating a Christian

yes! that’s exactly why i wanted to write it. you’d get uncomfy situations and conversations from both sides. that’s what would make the story more powerful of them falling for each other!:)

Tbh for me it was both. It is a bit of a lifestyle change. You’ve definitely got to make time to write. Change your schedule, etc.

i thought of it bc i’m LGBTQ and christian and hope that won’t stop me from loving whoever i love, and i feel many stories just make religion or lgbt the “bad guy”

i completely agree!! you can 100% be both, especially since christianity is centered around love and faith and not discrimination and hate
