I feel like offering to pay for gas is something that our generation doesn’t do and I hate that. My friends always agree but they often look surprised when I ask them to help pay or offer to help them pay if they’re driving me
Etiquette for me driving you (non-family):
1. Say thanks
2. Over 1hr, at least offer to contribute for gas or get me a snack
3. Don’t startle me for no reason
4. Don’t leave trash (yes eat but clean up)
5. Don’t try to show me something on ur phone
It depends on wether or not you asked them to come or they asked you to drive. If you asked them to come you can’t ask them for gas. But if they asked you to drive then it’s proper etiquette

Well how far are you driving them, and how out of your way are you going for them?

I offer to pay gas if I’m riding along for a longer trip, or if I take frequent short trips with them (ie the grocery store). They don’t always accept (Midwest nice) but I can’t not offer

If you’re doing them a favor, you went out of your way to pick em up/ drop em off, and it’s at least an hour there and back, they should offer to pay.

Typically I think an offer to pay for gas is appropriate when the total drive time is more than 3 hours. Or if we’re staying overnight somewhere

3+ hours is so valid. if yall stop for food or whatever u can also just asked them to get it and call it even
