OP HERE TO CLARIFY if youre just a person who loves books what you read is your prerogative i dont gaf. if you are a content creator who doesn’t uplift lesser known authors or critically examine the impact of your recs because they are popular, its a 🚩
idk if this is a hot take but i get the ick whenever i look at the shelf behind a self proclaimed book lover/content creator’s shelf and there isn’t a single unpopular book or author on it

Regular reader here 😝 how do I find lesser known authors? It seems a lot of the popular ones are still under the tags small author or indie author (at least on instagram I don’t use TikTok)

it really depends on your niche. i start by getting off social media and looking for smaller blogs/generally searching for more niche genres. you could also go to a indie bookstore. they usually have the ‘typical’ popular book selection but have a wider selection of indie authors, and on occasion a local authors section!

what is your usual genre? mine is sort of ‘batshit insane lesbians’ which isn’t most peoples cup of tea, but i could try to find a blog for you!

There aren’t any indie bookstores by my house there’s only Barnes & nobles and a target. My usually genre is romance but I’ve been getting bored of it so I’m trying to get into other fiction genres.

Also, secondhand book stores, or thrift stores usually have a book section
