Yeah misandary and misogyny both are bad, but one is kills women and other one pisses men off. There is a difference.I am #2 in the comments and I agree that she received far too much flak, but also the point I support is that categorizing all men in that way is also hurtful to the men who actually care about being good. It is not all men. It is a combination of poor parenting, a flawed society, hormones, and the fact that men are just physically dominant. None of these excuse the horrible people, but it is not a gender issue. It is the same sort of arguments i see racists trying to make about-
I just don’t see how they categorized men in a certain way at all. I think the point is that misogyny is a serious issue that leads to the extremely disproportionate murder of women. You are right, it is not all men. I have a brother and loved ones that are men. All of us do. But it is men who are doing the violence, even if its not you. I don’t see why you are hesitant to call it a gender issue. Women weren’t able to vote 100 years ago & couldn’t have their own bank accounts 50 years ago.
I think it is a societal/patriarchy issue ngl. It is the culture and society behind malehood and femininity. I actually don’t have a problem with what she said, i even said in the thread that she really didn’t say anything necessarily wrong, I suppose i’ve seen alot of people say all men and just bashing men as a gender and it really hurts someone like me. I’m aware i’m pretty sensitive to these things, but I explain it more in the thread
It just seems like most of the people who are mmad in the comments probably don’t take misogyny as seriously as misandry, but then are accusing the OP of being the one that doesn’t take misandry as seriously as misogyny, even though one seems objectively more serious. And I don’t get how talking about the discrimination women face takes something away from men’s experiences
Definitely, there were lots of disgusting things people commented. One thing i will add is that saying it is a male issue in general not only hurts men who aren’t bad and just want to live their life, it also takes some responsibility from those who are seriously evil, as it could be claimed it was a issue from birth
I just went back and read your comments and I actually upvoted what you said before! I agree with you, I think we should be more careful about how we talk about things and be careful not to dehumanize men too. I’ve had convos with my brother about how it affects him & hes said similar stuff. I think it’s complicated bc it seems like some people will take it too far & try to say that that means women don’t experience dehumanization/that men experience more dehumanization or worse dehumanization.
I agree with you for sure. I think that it is more of a systemic issue than an issue with individuals, too. Like it’s not like men have inherently flawed characters or something, it is definitely a broader societal/patriarchal issue like u said. I think it would help a lot if men as a whole had more positive role models though too
