It’s also so frustrating when people dismiss fanfic just bc it’s fanfic. Some of the most profound and beautifully written stories I’ve ever read have been fanfics.
I hate when people reduce the idea of fan fiction to just pure smut. I have nothing against smut, I just prefer not to read it. I still easily find so many amazing fics with no sex and sometimes even no romance! Fanfic is so much more than “just smut.”

fanfic can be of literally any quality like the only requirement is that it’s based on existing content and characters. i hate when people try to dismiss something that so many people love and spend time writing and reading because it’s their passion. you don’t have to like fanfic to respect that other people do.

I’m not sure if you’re agreeing with my point or arguing with it, but I agree with what you’re saying. Fanfic is a hobby, a passion project, something people do because it’s fun and they want to. To dismiss fanfic purely bc of the not well written fics is stupid. Everyone starts somewhere, and a lot of people start writing in fanfiction. Almost no one is born with amazing talent in writing. It’s important to nurture and encourage beginning fanfic writers so they feel motivated to keep writing, instead of shaming them into never picking up a pen again.
