And if you get caught in a riptide swim parallel to land to get OUT of the rip current, then you should be able to swim back to shore. The ocean will kill you!!! And you will not be found!!!

And remember that this applies to the Great Lakes. I’m not so sure about the flag system, I’ve never seen it personally and I grew up near Lake Erie, but even those lakes have rip currents. You’re not safe just because it’s not the ocean

Idk why you’re being downvoted, this is so true, other bodies of water can also have currents and be dangerous. Yes the ocean is especially dangerous but it legitimately takes only 2 inches of water for a grown adult to drown so it’s important to know how to keep yourself and others safe.

idk why you’re being downvoted cause it’s true? lake superior is around 40-50° degrees year round. it’s known to be dangerous for both swimmers and boaters because of the winds and currents.

Right, like there’s a reason we’re just now discovering decades-old shipwrecks in the lakes. They’re really just that massive and difficult to safely navigate, especially when you factor in storms. Just on Lake Erie I’ve seen 10 foot storm surges regularly, and that’s not even the biggest of the Great Lakes. Definitely not to be underestimated just because they’re landlocked!
