She thought deafness was the worst tragedy she could experience, opposed sign language access pretty much across the board, supported the oralist movement alongside her friend Alexander Graham Bell who thought no two deaf people should ever marry and reproduce so as to not pass on deaf genes, advocated for eugenics based approaches based on disability (like with letting baby Bollinger die instead of perform surgery because he was “mentally and morally defective”), things like that.

She absolutely did a LOT for women, Blind folks, labour movements, the list goes on. She was absolutely horrendous for Deaf folks and mentally disabled folks, though.
