So I saw a lawyer explain that the reason this was a Supreme Court case in the first place is because a woman refused to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples and got fined for it so she did this not to pay the ~$36k bill
The Supreme Court has rejected a call to overturn same-sex marriage rights in the U.S.

Okay I actually work in the news in the Kentucky area and have been following this story for a while. For your first point, it technically wasn’t even a Supreme Court case, because it was immediately thrown out. But yeah, now she’s accumulated nearly 2 decades of court costs on top of the original damages she has to pay because she fought it for so long

She’s a fucking idiot and I hope this serves as an example to all bigots that their hate is not worth the fight

Better wording would have been “the case was brought before the Supreme Court” but I was over the character limit

Nah you’re good! Also the way it’s been framed in every major headline is so misleading, so I’m doing my best to clear that up 😅 I didn’t even realize that was the same story because her case wasn’t even a landmark decision to begin with, she just wanted to have the individual choice of issuing marriage licenses or not. Basically the same sex cake case but as a government official instead of a baker
