I hate this joke so much. I’ve only ever heard privileged Americans make this joke. As someone who grew up gay in a country where homosexuality was criminalized, it’s so shitty being used as a punch line.

On the flip side of this, it’s great unironically when it’s not just used as a comical punchline. It brings attention the fact that I’m not allowed to exist in 72 countries without being a criminal for existing. Let’s /not/ stop talking about this. No one’s trying to claim trauma that isn’t there’s. I’m a criminal in 72 countries for existing.
