You’re gonna get some hate but the harsh reality is there are some people that have little to no choice. I was poor, taking care of my sister and disabled mother and I almost had to sign up just to survive. Being able to say no is kind of a privilege
Do you guys know any queer people in the military? I’m thinking of joining after college but kinda worried about it since I am visibly queer

It’s shitty that people fail to see that social and financial pressures can make people do *all* kinds of things. We may not necessarily have an active draft, but that doesn’t mean enlistment isn’t still a damn-near handwringing thing forced upon many people. The military has also been very effectively propagandised and JROTC is often something people have fun with and make friends out of, so the appeal also rests there in addition to the promises of leaving your hometown and getting GI tuition.

literally!! I got extremely downvoted a while ago by pointing out the fact that the military preys on vulnerable people and unlike cops you don't just get the option to leave. I also had people telling me that my partner should've chose to be homeless instead of joining the military when he was 18 in an attempt to get away from his extremely abusive family
