Most lesbian bars have closed due to a lack of, well, lesbians. Plus the security cost of keeping straight men out. (A problem, noteably, gay bars have increasingly had with straight women as acceptance has risen; they want to be accepting of lesbians, but some straight women see it as a place to harass the men.)
That’s so real, I’m in western mass so we have our one that just opened, and three in the whole state, (two are general “sapphic”) but besides that the closest is Henrietta’s in NYC. I’m always a little impressed at how well the gay community has kept gay bars alive, but I assume it’s in part due to the introduction of drag queens to straight people (straight girls love drag race) wich is definitely not a great thing. I’m glad that there seems to be a good bit of gay bars out there.
Yeah, thinking about that angle with your original post definitely makes me understand it a lil more. It’s that kind of being put on show that’s okay for drag queens, because they’re literally trying to make money, but straight people and just non gay men in general may see yall as a source of entertainment? Does that make sense?
