Actually the planned famine of Yemen started under Obama. Yemen imported 90% of its food. Its a desert. Obama helped the Saudis blockade the airports and seaports.

“fewer” die under a democrat one… if a democrat wins. running a campaign for a pro-genocide candidate is 1) saying living in the imperial core matter more than those abroad and 2) a way to ensure a republicans wins again, aka we’re back to the current status quo. a democratic candidate only has a chance of winning in 2028 if they run on a genuinely progressive platform. the last decade has only alienated core constituencies in the party’s voter base. esp w current gerrymandering etc.

I agree with that. I’m not arguing odds here. I take issue with OP pretending that there’s a world we can vote for where nobody dies. I’m sorry, that’s just not on the table. Call me a utilitarian, but I think this trolley problem has a clear better side, and that’s not the side that is currently in power.

The genocide in Gaza is terrible. Don’t imagine or pretend I’m defending it. But it’s not something we can just magically change at ballot box, it’s something we change by applying pressure to a responsive congress and executive branch. Protest under a democrat long enough, you’ll get change (far too slowly, but it comes). Protest under a republican, they sic ICE on you. Because they’re nazis.

they’re not gonna run a more progressive candidate. no fucking way. the democrat i’ve party has made it very clear the only direction their politics will move is to the right. they have been and continue to be more hostile and more effective against any genuinely left wing candidate in their party than they have ever been against outright fascism in the republican party

yeah i’m sure holding hands in inflatable frog costumes, and having really funny witty signs will convince kamala harris to break off our decades long relationship with isreal. don’t mind all the people who show up to these protests with signs like “if kamala was president id be at brunch”. clearly neither of the options are going to work and “voting blue no matter who” is how the democrats have gotten away with sliding to the right. it’s time to get off our asses and vote third party

it’s definitely harder because every third party is basically disallowed from running a real campaign but if we want to make change that means getting up and volunteering and organizing and doing the work not just sitting around on our couches and then voting for whichever centrist democrat ends up on the ballot so they can bomb the middle east “wokely”

it’s not whataboutism to bring up the fact democratic leaders have caused lots of suffering in the middle east. that’s the topic of discussion. it is not acceptable to allow our leaders to treat people like this. if your entire political strategy is damage control during the election cycle then sit around and show up for the occasional protest someone else organized the rest of the year then you are allowing democratic leaders to get away with sliding further to the right

as well as writing off death and suffering abroad as a reasonable price to pay for your own comfort and safety. i’m not saying trump is better in any way or that kamala might not be better in some respects. but she is still going to allow and even perpetuate the suffering and exploitation of people i the global south and just voting blindly for her and not doing any further organizing is not a political strategy it’s just us trying to wash our hands of the situation we’re complicit in

and that has not been what the protests have been right lately. i don’t need your opinion on protests in the us im involved in political organizing in my city and getting people to actually protest in an effective and sustained manner is a massive issue which needs to be the actual focus instead of just getting another centrist who will cede more grounds to republicans in office. damage control cannot be the extent of your political strategy and for a long time it has been for a lot of people

yall keep saying tht so when will it be? if you keep writing them off and refusing to engage with political organizing designed to make that an option and provide support and give them name recognition you are once again enabling establishment democrats to slide to the right, and undermining any attempts to create an alternative. you are locking us into a slower slide into fascism not preventing one

yeah i do have a plan because i’m in an organization that is specifically focused on creating the political coalition needed to support independent left wing and socialist candidates in both local and national elections through grassroots movements because campaign financing laws prevent traditional methods of campaigning to win, and those traditional methods also make candidates susceptible to being financially influenced by companies and interests other than their constituency.
