I've learned that you can't. You can't fight the wall. It's there and it's permanent and it's just a part of your brain wiring. It's all about learning how to work/live with the wall. Finding ways to maybe just shave the wall down a bit. Create your life around the wall, staying conscious and aware of the wall and all of its limitations. The whole 'habit building/breaking' stuff and repetition and blah blah that everyone preaches about doesn't apply to ADHD and similar disorders.

Figuring out why the wall is there helps me go around it or turn it into more of a door

As others have said, compartmentalization is the best way to combat it. Cuz if you let it, it would skink your whole ship, but if you say, know you have specific problems with scheduling a doctors appointment *cough for the last year *cough, it might almost be more acceptable. Almost 😅

It’s important to focus on and celebrate the things you CAN do.

Like, a lot of times it’s because there’s something I don’t understand but I’m too overwhelmed to realize that. Other times it’s because that task (or something similar) used to be hard. Taking out my trash is actually super easy now, but I used to need to walk almost a quarter mile to get to my old apartment’s dumpster and back. The “that’s WORK and I don’t WANT TO” wall is still there even though it’s not really true anymore

How do I work around the wall if it’s stopping me from doing anything at all? 😫

You start off easy. Just focus on one thing at a time. Be aware that this is you, this is what you're working with. A square can't be a circle, it's a square. If you start thinking about everything you have to do and seeing the whirlwind of tasks, you're cooked immediately. So just one thing at a time. And actually be proud of yourself and praise yourself for completing any little thing! How you talk to yourself REALLY matters. Hop on your laptop and send that email. Sit with it. Smile. Be (1/2)

Proud that you sent that email. Revel into how good it feels, lean into it. Let yourself daydream for a minute, do something else. Float on over to a different task in an entirely different area, like go on a walk. Be so happy and grateful and triumphant. Float on over to your car to go to the grocery store. Don't feel like it? That's okay, take a beat. Sit down and scroll for 15 minutes. Then get in your car. Find the perfect playlist. Sip on a bevy. Get to the store, (2/3 oops)

scroll on your phone. Realize you're at the store, oh shit. Guess we gotta go in. Go in and take your time browsing and pondering. And so on and so forth (3/3)
