Really? 1/3 of you chose to kill someone to save yourself the guilt of doing so? Honestly?

Do we really have the obligation to risk harm upon ourselves–physically or mentally– in order to save a stranger's life? I'm not so sure. I dont think it's anyone's responsibility to traumatize themselves to save my life.

You’re literally not killing someone??? You’re just doing nothing. You didnt put the person on the tracks. You have no idea what’s going on or why they’re there. Literally just read the prompt again 🤦‍♂️

99% of american voters voted for genocide so this is not surprising.

You’re literally being told you have the power to save them with the switch of a lever. If you don’t they die. You are directly responsible for their death and it’s completely up to you if they die

bro idk I think with these circumstances I’d definitely pull the lever but that’s just me though if it means helping someone else lol

I think in this scenario, since you specifically are being given not only the choice but power to protect a life or kill a life with nobody else around to save them, it seems like a moral obligation to pull the lever. Trauma can be healed with over time. If your life’s not in danger, there’s really no good reason to kill them. Most of us already deal with trauma, that’s not a reason to kill someone who’s just inflicting emotional trauma onto you. There’s ways to live with that, there’s not

…any way to live when you’re being killed by someone, which is definately the harsher of the two by any standpoint. If you were on the tracks, I’m sure you’d desperately want the person with the lever to save you and deal with a bit of baggage for it

We have a moral obligation to each other in society and as a species, yes

But that still doesn't mean it's morally wrong to not pull the lever. The person with the lever is also a potential victim in this scenario. The way i see it, it would be heroic and admirable to pull the lever and risk the quality of your life, but not pulling the lever doesnt necessarily make you responsible for the death.

If we have a moral obligation to risk harm–physical or mental– upon ourselves in order to save other people, why isnt mandatory military service a thing here?

you're not necessarily directly responsible tho cause you've done nothing (the choice is either do nothing or save a life). it would be different if the choice was between two buttons but your just letting something happen that would happen whether you were there or not (i picked the second option but just explaining what i think #3 was trying to say)

Actually in case of a national emergency, men who qualify are eligible to be drafted. Currently it’s voluntary and has been for quite a while since the Vietnam war which actively threatened us, but if another war comes about in a similar fashion or WW3 finally gets here, don’t be surprised when it comes back. That’s not really the point, but the point is that in dire times like that, the people who can save are enlisted to save

Having a strong military will save the entire country in wars that threaten us to such a degree. We haven’t the draft in many years because we’re not actively trying to combat in wars especially that don’t pertain to us, but if we get into some shit we need people able to help all the people who are defenseless during the time of war. Or else we’re all going down here

America’s military systematically annihilates defenseless people. Look at Iraq, Palestine, Yemen, Guetemala, Afghanistan, Indonesia… need I go on?

Amerikkka needs a strong military because the western “world order” is based on the subjugation of the Global South and the west murders everyone who resists

Anyone who participates in those wars is doing so voluntarily. It’s not an action to protect our country unlike how the draft only comes around when our country truly needs protecting. I’d say the people who are contributing to those wars are doing so for our allies who happen to be strong militant countries as well so we don’t go down when shit hits the fan and we have more strong militaries protecting us
