This is why I’m a firm believer that no one needs a pet while in college 99% of y’all can’t handle itFor having the cat in the first place it was our leasing office's fault, didn't disclose that there were people in the unit with cats before move in, suppose to be pet free, plus another roommate who was there before us snuck a cat in but we were okay with it as long as it wasn't roaming downstairs (i live on the bottom floor. Other then that I was surprised when she brought home a new cat after the very recent death of the last one (within a week)
Here’s the sad thing too, I have a dog at my college. I am extremely busy, classes from 8 to 5+ meetings for my internship plus tutoring other people. The only time my dog has ever been “neglected” is if I had to be gone all day, and my roommate refused to walk him (she also has a dog so it wasn’t unreasonable, but she also barely takes her dog out and tried to poison them once). My solution? My friends who hike would ask if I could come and bring him, I couldn’t go bc my schedule but
I would prepare a bag and let them bring him along. The bag normally just had a water dish and a few treats as well as a towel just in case. The dog is happy because he gets to get out and my friends are happy because they get to have a dog. Luckily it was only for this past year as all the other years I’ve been able to get him everything he needs without extra help and this upcoming year, I am going to be part-time partly so that I can take him out more.
I am still very pissed at my roommate, though because I would take care of her dog when she left for weekends, but then there would be days. I would come back after being gone at classes all day and she would tell me that my dog was crying for hours when he needed to go out. I also walked in to vomit all over the floor and knew that she gave him something because she would feed both the dogs, people food and a lot of times it was stuff that can make them very sick. So glad I’m out
He’s my ESA but I don’t take him to class as I don’t have time to drop him off before lab and people bring non trained dogs to class. I would agree with you except for all the times I took care of HER dog bc she didn’t want to get off the couch. At least for me I physically couldn’t be there, she just didn’t WANT to take care of her dog. Her dog would also wake me up at like 2am to go out bc she wouldn’t take him
I also asked that she take him out at midday when she takes out her dog. That was it, just the once a day. Found out she wasn’t taking her dog out all day bc “he only needs to go in the morning and before bed”. Shocker, her dog would always be at the door needing to go out when I got back and she would just be on the couch asking if I’d take him out. There were days that she complained they were crying for hours to go out, but she didn’t take them
