Not white people. The government. The government passed laws in the past that made theft of Black people’s hard work not only legal, but inescapable for almost all Black people born in the south. That stolen labor was never paid back. The government still owes those people money.

I’m white btw. Paying people back for stolen labor is just the right thing to do. I don’t know my ancestors’ role in slavery, but I would gladly contribute to a reparation fund because someone should pay back what was stolen, even if the names of the culprits and beneficiaries are unknown.

But it’s not the government that would be paying for it… it would be taxpayers… hence making the people paying for these reparations guilty by association.

I’m saying this as someone whose family didn’t immigrate to this country until the 80s: I don’t see how it’s ok to force people to pay money for something they never had direct involvement in to other people who had no direct involvement in slavery. If you want to voluntarily give money or contribute to a fund go right ahead head but it’s wrong to force people who had no direct involvement in slavery pay reparations.
