The founding fathers also DESIGNED a slave to count as 3/5th of a person for representation
Yes, the Senate is undemocratic The founding fathers DESIGNED IT that way. You couldn’t even directly elect your senator until 1913. It’s democracy of the United STATES not United people

You realize the states that *didn’t* own slaves wanted it to be lower, so that slave owners wouldn’t get too many house reps, right? It was the slave states that wanted slaves to count 100%. If the compromise hadn’t happened it would have taken *longer* to abolish slavery.

Yeah and that’s fucking dumb. That’s why the senate is a stupid thing. We know they intentionally designed it that way. The founding fathers weren’t perfect and that’s the point. Intentional or not, they also did bad things

The Senate was created to help give smaller states a say in government. Yes it was originally made so we could not vote for our senators. But the 17th amendment changed that. And Im not denying they did bad things. My original comment was just something that came to mind when I saw this post.

Yeah the point is you can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you want slaves to count at 100% a person then you would have to let slavery go. Ever heard the term “second-class citizen?” Slave states didn’t want to let enslaved people go, therefore they don’t get 100% of the person to partake in democracy
