When a government fucks up to a point where hundreds of thousands if not millions of people flood the streets in opposition to it, I find that it reflects more poorly on that government than the masses in opposition to it.

That is a good point. But there's a difference between justified protests and violent riots that destroyed businesses and cities. There's hypocrisy to it that exists in the citizens minds that cannot be blamed on one administration. It underlies a much greater issue that I don't think you can place all the blame on one guy in one year in one term of presidency.
