
The dems filibustered the debate on the continuing resolution (resolution to keep funding as is since they haven’t agreed on a budget yet) meaning the debate was left open without a deciding vote. To close the debate, more than a simple majority of 51 senators is needed. 60 votes are needed to end the discussion and vote on the resolution. There’s only 53 repubs the dems aren’t voting for it and instead are using the government shutdown as leverage
It’s more of a practical standpoint. I think the gov would do a shit job at it and it’d just raise everyone’s tax dollars. I don’t think the gov should pay for everyone’s food. It’s not practical. Certain situations call for government help with both of these issues, but definitely not for everyone.
