Why am I getting so much hate for joining the military? growing up I was always praised for attempting to protect the people around me but it seems no matter how pure my intentions are (I am going to be a research scientist) i have been called a murder 💀

Is the energy for civilian usage? If so why is that even under the military?

It’s under the military because nuclear plants power aircraft carriers. I work to make those more efficient which then translates to civilian nuclear plants using my findings (assuming we make progress)

So you are directly working on enhancing US war capabilities which will then be used against civilian populations. Yeah the meme still applies I’m afraid

In that case any third party coding company that develops a software for drones also applies to the meme. That seems like a stretch 😭

No I think it’s perfectly reasonable (assuming the software is explicitly for military drones)

So does the meme also apply to internet, radio, and satellite? All of which began as military projects? 😭

Maybe to the people who first worked on them, but not to the people working on them now in civilian applications obviously. I’m gonna call it here because there’s no way I’m gonna convince you when your salary depends on you not bring convinced

Its not that I disagree with you much. Where you lose me is how anything that benefits the military is thrown in the negative. Even if they began with military consequences

I just don’t think strengthening the US military is an acceptable price to pay for technological progress, especially not in the current moment

I can at least see that point of view. My point is that military competition is what drives technological advancement. Think about all of the advances that were made in the race to the moon between the US and the Russians. Without that need there wouldn’t have been any progress so I don’t think it’s a negative unless it’s directly harming individuals. For example the nuclear warhead 😭
