i think it’s fine tbh. can’t lessen the child’s hurt but we can assure the perpetrator cannot attempt this again

they won’t report in the first place 🤯

if killing the perpetrator gets in the way of the priority (which is helping the child) then it’s entirely counterproductive

how does it get in the way?

if it is know that the sentence for child sexual assault is death, then the child will be incentivized not to report as it is usually someone they have a very close relationship with

What child is going to go “my state just allowed the death penalty so he’ll die if I tell anyone?” Sure, the assaulter could trick the child by saying don’t tell or they’ll kill me, but they could say that in any state.

say you’re a young teenager, your uncle who you’re close with assaults you, now your whole family blames you for his death

If their family is going to blame them for their uncles death with these circumstances, they’re going to blame the kid for their imprisonment too

I think you’re overestimating the political savvyness and critical thinking skills of a 12 year old

Maybe, but I think we can all agree that death is more severe than imprisonment

we don’t need to be killing anyone for anything imo it’s not civilized

That’s definitely valid, I’m not saying the death penalty is justified or not. But this all seems like using child victims as a means to gain sympathy for a specific political cause. It’s not about whether or not the child is safe or protected, but whether or not we can kill criminals.

SCOTUS already resolved that matter, so that’s not up for debate. The only crime against another individual (as opposed to crimes against the State) where someone can be sentenced to death is murder

SCOTUS deciding is not a final ruling in our country anymore it seems. Otherwise roe v wade wouldn’t have been overturned

This is literally a well documented phenomenon. But even more severe, if the penalty is automatically death, that increases the odds of predators killing their victims to not get caught, because the punishment is the same anyways.
